Aspen HAGEN (Trondheim 1964 - Amsterdam 2008)
Painter
Education: Espen Hagen initially studied drawing in his hometown, then studied painting and sculpture at Emily Carr College in Vancouver. He then studied painting and sculpture at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, graduating in 1990.
Espen Hagen was born in Norway, but spent much of his childhood in Tanzania. He later made frequent trips to North America and Mexico, where he made the portraits of the American and Mexican indigenous peoples that made him famous. From the mid-1990s, Hagen often collaborated with Herman Brood, with whom he was friends and exhibited several times together. Despite the fact that the artistic value of his work is often considered higher than that of Brood, he has never matched his fame.

Espen Hagen has exhibited in Norway, Canada, Monaco, Croatia, the United States, Germany and the Netherlands, among others.
