Guillaume le ROY (Blaricum 1938 - Amsterdam 2008)
Graphic artist, wood engraver, etcher, pen artist, textile artist
Education: In 1957 he went to the School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam, which later became the Rietveld Academy, where he attended the free graphics department. He used cafe tables discarded by the restaurant De Hoefslag to make his first woodcuts. After graduating in 1962, he moved to family near Paris and spent more than two years in international art circles. Amsterdam
Le Roy's prints are always abstract. Sometimes his work is interrupted by small color tones, so he makes windows, gates and doors stand out better. The colors black, white and gray were the most important in his work for Guillaume Le Roy. However, in the years 1960-1979, he had a period in which he used more colors, only to return to his own style.
Exhibitions and prizes:
From 1965 Le Roy was much in demand to exhibit both at home and abroad. In 2010, Guillaume Le Roy's work was still on display in the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen. Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Museum of the Book The Hague
