Maya WILDEVUUR (Deventer 1944 - Midwolda 2023)
Biography / Education
Maya Wildevuur was educated at the Academy for Art and Industry in Enschede, which she completed in 1965. She started her first company Maya's arts and crafts at a young age, with which she provided artistic flower arrangements for various occasions. After flower arrangements, she also started working with textiles. This eventually resulted in her famous silk collages, which depict landscapes and events. In 1983, Wildevuur and her husband moved into a country house in Hooghalen in Drenthe, where they founded Galerie Maya Wildevuur. The bouquet she received at the opening became the starting point for a watercolor, after which watercolors took over in Wildevuur's oeuvre. In 1992, Wildevuur and her husband exchanged the Drenthe country house for the historic De Ennemaborgh castle in Midwolda, Groningen, where the gallery is also located to this day. The flat Groningen landscape is a source of inspiration for Wildevuur's art.
