In the 1960s, Peter Bes studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Peter Bes is a multidisciplinary artist. He has a lot of experience with printing methods and has experimented with them a lot over the years. He also makes objects, paintings, drawings and photographs. His works show an abstracted reality, with large, even areas of color and a cinematic appearance due to the contrast between light and dark. Bes often makes portraits and cityscapes of people on a journey, waiting or in motion.
