Peter de RIJCKE (Zeist 1945)
In the second half of the sixties, Peter de Rijcke studied at the Rietveldakademie in Amsterdam and followed a year of figure drawing at the State Academy of Art. In 1967 he had his first exhibition in his then hometown Zaandam and in 1969 he made his debut in the Amsterdam gallery Sergej. He has lived and worked in Hoorn since 1972, where he developed a recognizable figurative painting style with subjects such as landscapes, city and harbor views and portraits. Until 1977, Peter de Rijcke worked part-time at the Dagblad for West-Friesland, for which newspaper he wrote visual arts and theater reviews and drew political cartoons. At that time he also took the initiative to set up studio housing in Hoorn and was involved in the establishment of the Kunstuitleen West-Friesland in 1975 and the Artists' Association in Hoorn in 1979. But above all, in his new hometown, he was inspired by the picturesque old town. harbour, where ships of the brown fleet figure against a backdrop of 17th century facades. Series of etchings, watercolors and paintings arose during that time around this local maritime theme. In the early eighties, Peter de Rijcke started experimenting with intense painting techniques on large formats. The colorful and stormy performances that arose during this period show loving couples and rock bands, but then also landscapes, portraits and maritime subjects. In the mid-1990s he discovered the special possibilities of painting with a palette knife, with which paint could be set up quickly and modeled easily. His most recent paintings show a combination of palette knife and brush techniques. Different types of long-haired brushes are indispensable tools for expressing the sometimes subtle sensitivities of a performance. Source ; rkd, peter de Rijcke.nl
