Biography

In 1977 he exhibited his work for the first time in Düsseldorf. In the early 1980s, Rene Daniels took part in several exhibitions, such as Zeitgeist in Berlin in 1982 and Documenta 7 in Kassel. In the years that followed, he became increasingly well-known, especially internationally and he is seen as one of the most important Dutch artists of the time, along with Marlene Dumas, with whom he is good friends. Due to a brain haemorrhage in 1987, he lost the ability to paint.

The work of René Daniëls is in many museum collections worldwide. It hangs in the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Stedelijk Amsterdam, Museum De Pont in Tilburg, and even the Tate Modern has work by Daniëls in the Collection.
