Antoon MARSTBOOM (Antwerp,1905 - Antwerp, 1960)Antoon Marstboom was a Belgian painter, sculptor, designer, teacher and humanist. He was born in the heart of the city of Antwerp as Franciscus Antonius Theresia Marstboom. He studied from 1919 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, with the intention of becoming a sculptor. In 1925, he additionally enrolled in the painting class at the Municipal Academy of Berchem; At the end of that school year, he obtained the prize of excellence with the still life 'Rabbaw apples' and thus left the institution. 1928, start of the study period at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp, first with professor Albert Ciamberlani for monumental arts and afterwards with professor Baron Isidore Opsomer for painting. Finished his studies in 1935 and established his personal studio in the Beggaardenstraat in Antwerp. There he furthermore drew, painted and studied classical painterly themes such as the nude in nature, the landscape, the still life, the cityscape, the Antwerp suburb. Between 1942 and 1947 he often stayed in Kasterlee in the Kempen to experience the oppressive atmosphere of the occupied city to escape. During that period appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp; also taught painting from a live model in the highest grade. Around 1952-54, numerous works were created, based on his studies on the 'golden ratio', inspired by the port of Antwerp.
