Piet BEGEER (Gouda 1890 - Rotterdam 1975)
Piet Begeer was a Dutch painter. He lived and worked in Gouda, later worked in Haarlem and from 1913 in Rotterdam. He started as a student of L. van Kuik and then continued as an autodidact. He was not only a painter, but also a wood engraver. He worked quite abstractly until 1930, after which he made more naturalistic still lifes and compositions of people and fish. He was a member of De Branding with Herman Bieling, among others. He then founded R33 together with Quirijn van Tiel, among others. He was also a member of the Socialist Artists Circle SKK and was an art critic for the Free People.
