Founded in 1987 - dissolved in 1995
A few artists who wanted to rebel against the prevailing art climate by painting after observation, united in the artists' collective After Nature. The artists did not want to deal with conceptual art or far-fetched art theories. Their motto was: start painting, paint a lot and paint what you see. The group started out as Nieuwe Wilden, in imitation of the Neue Wilden in Germany, but was later renamed After Nature. The subjects of the painters of After Nature were often traditional themes such as landscapes, still lifes, nude studies and portraits. These works were often painted with moderate expression. The group was eventually disbanded, but they had gained a lot of fame during their existence, so that new artists regularly joined the collective.
