Dada

Dada is a movement that originated in Zurich. Its founding was a reaction to the chaos of Western society in the aftermath of the First World War and to civil society, which was seen as the instigator of the war. The old forms of art making were rejected and the Dadaists were concerned with exploring new ways of creation. The group is divided into two camps: those who create out of fear and frustration, and those who embrace the absurd. From Zurich, Dada spread through Europe, and to the United States. Dada's focus on the absurd had a profound influence on Surrealism.
