Founded in 1910 - dissolved in 1916
A society for modern artists was founded in Amsterdam in 1910, called the Modern Art Circle. In fact, it was an association for painters who had lived in Paris in previous years. The Modern Art Circle was important for the introduction of Cubism in the Netherlands. The aim of the Moderne Kunstkring when it was founded was to become an international salon for modern art, such as the Salon d'Automne in Paris. Due to the founding of the Hollandse Kunstkring, some members decided to leave the Modern Art Circle, including Piet Mondriaan. The Society of Artists Modern Art Circle also arose from the Modern Art Circle in 1915. Finally, the Modern Art Circle was dissolved in 1916, because a large group of painters from the circle decided to form the New Circle in Bergen.
