Special and rare work of art entitled "Reduction IV" consisting of 6 different paintings on panel (mixed media) by the Dutch painter, draftsman, collagist and sculptor Ad Snijders (Eindhoven, May 12, 1929 - ibid., February 25, 2010)

Snijders was already drawing regularly when he was only twelve years old. He went to the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in his hometown for a few months, but then left to work as an artist. He did study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris in 1961 and 1962. He was able to do this thanks to a prize he had received from the French government. He mainly taught himself the rest of the trade. His styles varied between expressionism, figurative art and abstract art.
At the age of twenty, he held his first exhibition, which attracted the attention of the press. Until 1965, he was mainly occupied with painting. In 1963, together with Johan Lennarts and JCJ Vanderheyden, he organised the exhibition 'Shijt aan Schilderkunst'. This was held in the Eindhoven gallery Pijnenborg and was aimed at art that raises questions instead of providing answers. From 1966 to 1972, he was one of the organisers of J66, which offered a platform to jazz musicians and visual artists. Until 1977, he had a period in which he mainly drew.
After that he produced acrylic and oil paintings, gouaches and watercolors until 1988. In the meantime he opened his own gallery in 1984 called Thornfield, where he held an exhibition six times a year. Under his studio he offered young artists a place to show their art.
In between, he also worked on collages and assemblages since 1965 and on mixed media since 1974.
Snijders was a member of the Association of Visual Artists (BBK). His work can be found in the collections of museums and private individuals. He exhibited three times in the Krabbedans and five times in the Van Abbemuseum, including in 1970. At that time, he presented Tot lering en feest together with Lennarts and Lukas Smits. The exhibition was executed in the style of a living room and had as its central question whether a museum still has any meaning. In addition, his work was exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum Fodor and the Museum Jan Cunen in Oss and the Van Abbemuseum.
This artwork was previously owned by the municipality of Eindhoven (see label)
Dimensions: 6x mixed media 35x25cm and total artwork 114x57cm
