=============================================================
Cornelis Jan (Bob) ten Hoope (born in Bussum 1920) received a solid education in the forties at the School of Applied Arts and the National Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. After that he painted and drew during his travels (Port Said and Cairo in 1951, New York in 1964, but also Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Spain).
From the mid-fifties he lived and worked in France, in the Vercors, the mountainous region between Grenoble and Valence. That was where his heart lay and where he made the majority of his enormous production in his studio in Pont-en-Royans.
His work has been exhibited in dozens of exhibitions, in the Netherlands in particular in the Singer Museum and in Hamdorff in Laren, Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen, Groenewoud Castle in Baarn and, in France in Lyon and in Saint-Marcellin. He and his fellow student Karel Appel at the Rijksacademie worked together and portrayed each other.
The subjects are mainly: café scenes, flowers, female nudes and landscapes. His
talent for a striking colour scheme makes his work very characteristic.
For the past ten years, the painter has been living permanently in his birthplace Bussum again. His
last exhibitions were in the town hall of Eemnes (November 2010, February 2011) and in the Singer Museum (part of the Erotique Rodin exhibition, September 2012
January 2013).
Shortly after this exhibition, Cornelis Jan ('Bob') ten Hope passed away in Bussum on January 18, 2014.
