  • In 1963, Clemens completed his education at the Amsterdam Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten. During an additional year at the lodge, he specialized in portraiture under the guidance of the famous portrait painter Sierk Schröder. Clemens is described in the lexicon of Pieter Scheen as an “excellent portrait painter” and characterized as an impressionist. After the Rijksakademie, he received numerous portrait commissions and drew cityscapes, for example for the topographical atlas of the city archives. He also participated in various group exhibitions, including at Arti et Amicitiae, the Van Gogh Museum, the Exposorium Vrije Universiteit and the Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder in Amsterdam, Singer Laren and the Markiezenhof in Bergen op Zoom.
