We are deeply saddened by the news of the sudden death of Donald Baechler. The American artist died of a heart attack in New York City the day before yesterday. In more than 40 years of his work, he created a work with a characteristic visual language: everyday objects and flowers, but also human figures are brought into focus in a supposedly naïve and symbolic way, often surrounded by a collage of pictures, newspaper clippings and similar found objects from pop culture. His work is represented internationally in renowned collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Center Pompidou and the Musee National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
