Emilio Kruithof is opgeleid aan de Sint Joost Academy of Fine Arts in Breda. Na afronden van zijn opleiding in 1995 was hij vrijwel direct succesvol met verschillende eigen tentoonstellingen. Emilio in een interview: “Ik ga voor wat mij in mijn hart raakt. Vrouwen vind ik mooi, zij zijn mijn onderwerp...de kleuren van crèmes, make-up, lingerie…dat zijn de kleuren van mijn palet." Toen actrice Halina Reijn werd bekroond met een prestigieuze Theo d’Or in 2013, vroeg zij Emilio Kruithof haar portret te schilderen. Dit portret hangt permanent in de Amsterdamse Stadsschouwburg.
