This painting is an art print of the original painting by the Dutch painter Gerard ter Borch, born 1617 in Zwolle and died on December 8, 1681 in Deventer.
He is best known for his small and gallant genre pieces, but also painted portraits.
More is known about his life than that of many other 17th-century painters.
He traveled to Italy, Spain, France and the Southern Netherlands in the period 1636-1643.
In Spain he painted, among others, King Philip IV of Spain.
In 1640 he returned to Holland, where he worked in Amsterdam and Haarlem until 1645.
In 1646 he accompanied the powerful Amsterdam mayor and diplomat Adriaen Pauw to Munster and painted one of his most famous pieces: The Conjuration of the Peace of Munster, 15 May 1648, the peace conference between Holland and Spain.
