Guido de Waart worked as a visual artist for over sixty years and was a teacher at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts (now Willem de Kooning Academy) and the Academy of Architecture for more than twenty years.

In the development of visual arts in Rotterdam from the fifties of the previous century, Guido de Waart occupies a completely unique position. As a teacher he was responsible for the education of a large number of artists, designers and architects; as a visual artist he built up a unique and versatile oeuvre that is characterized by a striking continuity.
