Hilton McConnico - Collage entitled "Miroir" - United States - Original hand signed - Sold

Rare collage by the American designer/designer and artist Hilton McConnico (May 13, 1943 - January 29, 2018) entitled "Miroir". McConnico was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and lived and worked in Paris from 1965. He was a self-taught fashion designer and officially launched his first atelier at the age of 16. After working in fashion for designers such as Ted Lapidus and Yves St. Laurent, he became a set designer and artistic director for more than 20 films, including the cult classic “Diva”. In 1990, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art hosted a 30-year retrospective of his creations. He also collaborated with Daum Crystal, presenting some of his “Cactus” creations to former French President François Mitterrand as a state gift to President George HW Bush. McConnico was also the first American whose work was permanently included in the Louvre's Decorative Arts Collection. He remained active on the global design stage, especially in the fields of architecture and interior design. He later worked on projects such as the Toupary restaurant on the fifth floor of the historic Samaritaine department store and the Hermès Museum in Tokyo, which he designed for the new Renzo Piano building in the famous Ginza shopping district. Hilton McConnico suffered from Parkinson's disease before his death. He received the Talent de l'Audace award from the Sommet du Luxe et de la Création in 2005.
