Jan van der Veer - Flower still life.

Jan van der Veer has been considered a minor Haarlem master for many years. He studied at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam with Willem van den Berg, Johannes Jurres and Hendrik Wolter, among others, and won first prize in the 'large painting class'. In Haarlem, Van der Veer joined artists' associations such as BBK'69 and Kunst Zij Ons Doel. He developed into a popular portraitist and still life painter. In addition, Van der Veer's atmospheric and strikingly aesthetically produced nudes are in great demand. His work can be found in private, museum and government collections. When he was 82, the artist made a drastic decision. He had art dealer/appraiser Willem de Winter auction all the work that was still in his possession in two days, otherwise his wife would have to deal with it. De Winter: "I have fond memories of that. A great studio auction. On 16 May 1995, everything was sold in 450 lots at the hotel de Raeckse for a total of eighty thousand guilders. Portraits, landscapes, nude studies - which he usually made at Kunst Zij Ons Doel, where he was a member for many years - and still lifes. Beautiful naturalistic work. Unperturbed as he was, Jan simply continued working during the auction."
The work is in good condition, the passepartout is a bit less.
