Johanna Hendrika Pieneman was a Dutch painter. She came from an old Amsterdam family of artists. Her father was Nicolaas Pieneman (Breukelen, 1853 – Maarssen, 1945), a descendant of the eighteenth-century painter Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853, director of the Royal Picture Gallery and the Royal Academy in Amsterdam).
Johanna was taught by Carel Dake, Antoon Derkinderen and Theo van Doesburg, among others. She painted, watercolored and drew (pastel) mainly in a figurative, impressionistic style landscapes, flowers and especially birds. Her work is considered to belong to the Amsterdam School. Her brother Nicolaas (1880-1938) was also a painter. She also painted a lot in France.
