Joop Leyten - " The pipe" .

For Joop Leyten, born in Hilversum in 1938 and died in Purmerend in 2002, painting and later making video films was about expressing philosophy in form. In his early paintings from 1967 onwards he reveals himself as a realistic painter with an ironic look. He paints everyday shapes, human figures, animals, objects, recognizable to everyone, primitively without details and using bright colors. Later, themes such as alienation, relativity, destruction and transience alternately play a leading role. The painter, who originally worked figuratively, developed through his work into an abstract visual artist. Due to illness, Joop Leijten ended his career as a painter in the mid-nineties, and in the last years before his death he profiled himself as a video artist. Exhibited both in the Netherlands and in various countries in Europe, in groups and solo. In 2003 there was a major retrospective exhibition of his work in Museum Waterland in Purmerend. His work is included in various national and international collections of companies, institutions, municipalities and private individuals. There is a small thin tear at the top left (see photos)
