Condition: the painting “Khmer Rouge” is in good condition, however the panel has 4 screw holes on each corner. The artwork came from Dalstra's studio, it is part of the artwork.
About Koos Dalstra Jacobus Willem (Koos) Dalstra (born October 18, 1950 in Leeuwarden) is a Dutch poet and visual artist. He uses the pseudonym Dalstar, and in the 1980s he was part of the Maximalists he founded.
Dalstra grew up in Sneek. His father was head of the acquisitions department of the Leeuwarder Courant. Dalstra studied sociology at the University of Groningen and taught criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In the eighties he became known as Dalstar as a poet/performer. He wrote the manifesto Maximal Art (1984) which serves as the starting point for the artists' group Maximalists. With photographer Paul Blanca he published the series of double portraits Timing in 1986; fifty portraits of people from the Amsterdam art world, with photos by Blanca provided with poems by Dalstra.
In the nineties, Dalstra lived in Amsterdam and was friends with the artist Rob Scholte. After the latter had been the victim of an attack, he accused Dalstra of being the perpetrator. A lawsuit for defamation was the result. Scholte was sentenced to pay damages, but appealed.
Dalstra currently lives and works in Vlissingen. In 2009 he was a candidate for the position of city performer of Leeuwarden.
