Marc Maet - Still life (early work)

Rare early work, mixed media on paper by the Flemish-Belgian visual artist and painter Marc Maet (Schoten, June 21, 1955 - Ghent, June 19, 2000). He studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and was a painting teacher at the same academy from 1984 to 2000. In 1982 he received the 'Europe Prize for Painting' in Ostend. His early works were characterized by a sensual approach to the medium, using thick layers of acrylic paint and creating compositions with African motifs. Later he shifted to a more conceptual approach, in which religious and symbolic elements played a role in his paintings1. Maet is considered an important representative of neo-expressionism and is recognized throughout Europe. His oeuvre testifies to a continuous search for new possibilities within painting.
