The drawing is somewhat discolored, but it is more than 110 years old. The mill is most likely located in Amsterdam. The work was made in 1910. In 1920 Maurits (also Mauritz or Mozes) Monnickendam left for England where he died in 1933. On the back is written Phoenix ? And on the back I found the year 1910. The only thing I know with the name Phoenix (from that time) is a beer brewery from Amersfoort that had its head office in Rotterdam. Few works by Maurits Monnickendam are known. One is now for sale at Simonis & Buunk and a few paintings have been sold at Christie's.
