Nicolaas (Nico) Schrier (The Hague, July 27, 1900 – Haarlem, July 31, 1989) was a Dutch glazier, graphic artist, painter and mosaic artist.
Schrier was a natural son of Lamberdina Jacoba Schrier. He married the art needleworker Helena Agatha Elisabeth (Lena) Stokhuijzen in 1923, they divorced in 1931. He remarried Johanna Cornelia Maria Hoedjes.
Schrier was educated at the School for Architecture, Decorative Arts and Crafts in Haarlem (1914-1918) and subsequently worked as a graphic designer in the studio of Herman Heuff. He designed posters, advertisements and book covers, among other things. Later he worked for some time in the studios of Willem Bogtman and Mathé van der Weiden.[2] He continued his education at the arts and crafts school in Munich and took an evening course at the Academy (1921-1923). In 1923 he started his own studio for decorative arts at Zomerluststraat 22 in Haarlem. In 1926 he entered into a partnership with Huib de Ru (1902-1980), who had also worked at Bogtman. Stained glass windows, wall paintings and mosaics were produced in their studio De Vonk (from 1935 Atelier Schrier en De Ru). The collaboration was dissolved in 1946 and De Ru and Schrier continued independently.
Schrier designed, among other things, all the stained glass work in the Koningkerk at Kloppersingel 55 in Haarlem. These windows were lost in a major fire. The stained glass windows in the Witte Kerk in Bergen were also designed by Schrier. He made his last window for his son's parents-in-law, for a church in Arva (Ontario, Canada). He was a member of Kunst Zij Ons Doel.
The artist died a few days after his 89th birthday.
