  • Magnificent late 18th century oil on canvas "marine" painting, with well painted depiction of a Dutch three-master in trouble off the (sunlit) coast. The painting is signed lower left with a monogram, but that is too vague to say anything about it. The artistic quality of this (still) unknown painter can be compared to well-known painters from the same period such as joh. c Schotel and adam Silo. The large canvas (65x90cm!) is in relatively good condition, with visible age-related craquelure but few other "injuries". The solid, gold-gilded oak 19th century showpiece frame is also in good condition.
