Information about the artist: Robert ('Rob') Bernard Henri Aussen , (Amsterdam, March 22, 1938 – Amsterdam, January 22, 2024), painter, watercolorist, etcher, draftsman, art collector and art dealer. -Education: Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (1959–1963). The murder of his parents († Sobibor, 2 July 1943) largely determined his view of the world, the government, power and people. Life could be hard, but he tried to make a party of it: “Life was a party, but the dead were always there”. Rob Aussen spent the 60s, 70s and 80s of the previous century mainly traveling. He made trips to Spain, Italy, India, the Indonesian islands and many countries in Africa. He bought a lot of ethnographic art there. He loved the materials, the texture, the form language and especially the history of each object. Since 1979 he lived and worked in the Jordaan in Amsterdam. Rob Aussen worked mainly in ink, watercolour and oil paint in an expressionist-tinged realism (figurative). He exhibited his landscapes, nudes, groups and portraits in Amsterdam, New York and several European cities. For a while he worked with the artist collective 'Confetti'. -Literature: Lexicon of Dutch visual artists [Scheen, 1969], vol. 1, p. 35.
