'My work originates from a personal search for the inner self of man: his soul and his spirit. Pain, desire, sorrow, self-sacrifice, courage, fasting, temptation, dreams, the struggle between good and evil, everything that lives in man is my inexhaustible source of inspiration. This complex of human illusions is captured in the most perfect earthly form: the human body. The Russian tradition is the perfect example of such a harmonious interplay of inner and outer. The woman and her emotional existence are the main motif in my work. Her vulnerable beauty is enhanced by mystical gifts and a profound intuition. In my paintings, a romantic mood is often mixed with light melancholy. People, gods and animals are all symbols and the mysterious meaning of these will have to be discovered by the viewer himself.'

The work of Svetlana Tiourina (Perm, Russia, 1964) is characterized by classical themes, which she elaborates in layered paintings. She takes the classical academic foundations as a starting point for her work, which she processes according to her own insights. Insights that cannot be separated from her Russian soul.
