Top work by Theresia van der Pant. Everything a good medal should have. The whole is in very good condition and is beautiful in color/patina.

The Netherlands has always had a strong bond with the state of Israel: a good reason to issue a commemorative coin for the nation's twentieth anniversary. But how do you commemorate a country celebrating its birthday on a coin? Van der Pant chose the growth of the country from the barren desert and found a line from the prophet Isaiah 35:1 on the back, which sings the praises of the greatness and glory of God's people. On the obverse side, she modelled the symbolically charged olive tree, a heavy, almost lifeless-looking stump that produces new branches. The growth force is so great that the edge of the coin is too small for the shoots. The solid plastic of the stump is echoed in the weight of the coin. The back side bears the text from Isaiah in unpunctuated Hebrew and in Dutch: `The desert and the dry land will rejoice, the steppe will exult and blossom like a rose'. In the middle a small hole has been made with a gouge in which stones and pebbles lie. As a medal it is a technical masterpiece from the workshop of Begeer who was able to execute the well-thought-out concept of Van der Pant in this way. (source VVPK)
