Large etching (double ink border line and gray washed sheet edge): 55.7 cm X 40.7 cm: -View from Kreuzberg of the historic city center with the Schlossberg on the Eger, on the left the church of St. Maria Magdalena. Bottom left typographical inscription with “Nach der Natur gezeichnet von V. Morstadt und J. Schembera.”, and below that “Malerische Darstellung von Prag 5tes Blatt”. Bottom center "HRADSCHIN", and below that "Anficht von Sudwelt." Bottom right “Radirt von Profesor CA Richter.”, and below that “Verlegt von Borrosch's Buchhandlung”.
Smaller etching: 51 cm X 36.7 cm: --View of the historic town with the Schlossberg on the Eger and some rural scenes. Bottom left typographical inscription with “Nach der Natur gezeichnet von V. Morstadt.”, and below that “Malerische Darstellung von Prag 3tes Blatt”. Bottom center "HRADSCHIN", and below that "Anficht von Nordoft." Bottom right “Radirt von Profesor CA Richter.”, and below that “Verlegt von Borrosch&André”.
Both works are framed in a simple oak frame and are placed behind antique drawn glass.
See photos for possible restoration: The large work has a kink at the bottom left and a dent at the bottom right. The smaller work has a small crease in the lower left corner, some bulging in the paper at the lower right (this is not water damage) and a number of very small visible damage spots. All of this is relatively easy to restore.
Apart from that the works are still very beautiful and the colours are still very vivid. (has never been exposed to sunlight or moisture)
Vincent Morstadt 1802 Kolín, Bohemia – 1875 Prague Czech lawyer, painter and draftsman. Studied at the law faculty of Charles University in Prague until 1825. He became famous for his views on Czech cityscapes, especially Prague, which are now also of great documentary importance. His estate has been in the National Gallery in Prague since 1949.
