Lex van Rossen (1950-2007)
Lex van Rossen is the best Dutch pop photographer ever. He worked for many years as a pop photographer for NRC Handelsblad and GPD, among others, and is regarded as one of the pioneers of Dutch pop photography. His photos appeared in all major pop magazines and for many years he was purveyor to Jip Golsteijn. Van Rossen took photos of the greats, including Queen and The Rolling Stones. Most famous is probably the photo of U2 frontman Bono, who is singing to the audience in De Kuip. Van Rossen was awarded the prize for his fieldwork in January 2005, when he was awarded the eleventh Pop Press Prize during Noorderslag. The jury described him as a "true frontline soldier who dares to confront his subject, but also the paying pop audience from the front rows." Van Rossen died in 2007, after which the Lex Van Rossen award was presented annually
