Steps Ahead is an influential jazz band founded in 1979 by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri. The group is known for its innovative approach to jazz music and ability to combine different musical styles into their unique sound. Steps Ahead has undergone several lineup changes over the years, but the core members have always maintained a high level of musicianship.

One of the standout aspects of Steps Ahead is their use of electronic instruments and technology in their music. They were pioneers in integrating synthesizers and electronic percussion into jazz, adding a fresh and futuristic sound to their compositions.
