Upsala-Ekeby
Upsala-Ekeby was a porcelain and earthenware manufacturer founded in Sweden in 1886 by the Bahr, Ekstrand and Holm families. In the first half of the twentieth century, the factory produced tiled stoves, but also bricks, roof tiles and vases were made. From that period, designers were also deployed to design household and artistic pottery. All the pottery was made with clay from the vicinity of the factory.
From 1937 Upsala-Ekeby took over several companies such as Gefle Porcelain AB Group, Karlskrona Porcelain Factory, Gense, Kosta Boda and also competitor Rörstrand. With this latest acquisition, the factory's range was expanded considerably. More takeovers took place, but at the same time parts of the company were spun off. In the 1960s Upsala-Ekeby mainly produced pottery and flower pots. In the 1970s, the plant's success declined and Upsala-Ekeby was closed in 1978.
