Kay BOJESEN (Copenhagen 1886 - Gentofte 1958)
Kay Bojesen was working as a silversmith with Georg Jensen when he decided to complete his studies in precious metals. After graduating, he worked for a period with a craftsman in Paris, before returning in 1913 to open his own studio in Copenhagen. The Art Nouveau style is particularly prominent in his work in the beginning. Later he developed his own modern style in which simple shapes, little to no decoration and mechanical production play an important role. Bojesen is co-founder of the Den Permanente shop and gallery, which opened in 1931, where the best of Danish Design is presented. In 1938 he designs the famous Grand Prix cutlery, which was later also manufactured in stainless steel. In addition to metalwork, Bojesen was also involved in wood. His wooden animals received a lot of international fame when he presented them from 1922. Kay Bojesen's studio was taken over by his son after his death and is still active in producing high-quality design.
