Constructivism

The movement of constructivism started in Russia, but soon reached an international audience. The predecessors of Constructivism were Cubism and Futurism. Constructivism artists wanted to create works of art that combined geometric compositions with images of modern technology and industry. That's why they called themselves 'artist-engineers'. Despite the fact that the works have certain visual characteristics (abstraction and geometry), there were opposing ideas within the movement about the role of art. There was a side that believed that art could and should influence society. In contrast, the idea that art was a separate activity without social or political obligations.
