Founded in 1958 - dissolved in 1961
Informal Art is a formless art form and the counterpart of geometric abstraction. In the Netherlands, the Dutch Informal Group is founded in 1958, where the common aspects in the works of the members are energy, dynamism and directness. One of the group's main mottos is to dissolve form because of "the greater possibility of arriving at an objectively neutral expression of general validity." Within informal art there are no preconceived plans, no ideal of beauty is pursued and there is no rational approach. It is precisely spatiality and formlessness that play a major role in the art of the Dutch Informal Group. Eventually the Dutch Informal Group merged into the Nul group.
