Especially in the early years in Utrecht, decorative pottery was made of a very high quality that is seen as a late variant in the Nieuwe Kunst. The painters Heijtze and Seinstra sold the factory to investors in 1927 due to economic adversity and continued to work there themselves. The investors moved the factory to Maarssen, located a little further north, that same year. It was established on the Merwedekanaal (Westkanaaldijk), under the name Kunstaardewerkfabriek St. Lukas Maarssen.
