Ceramicist: Stuurman, Willem 1908 - 1995
Born in 1908 in Amsterdam, he studied at the Quellinus School of Applied Arts, where he was taught by Bert Nienhuis. His career took him to several prominent ceramic companies such as ESKAF, Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven, Goedewaagen Gouda, Potterie Kennemerland, Sint Lucas Maarssen, and Zenith Gouda.
At Zenith he served as artistic director from 1931 to 1934. However, he was dismissed at the end of 1934 after a conflict. Shortly afterwards he worked at the Driehoek in Huizen, before starting his own studio in Austerlitz and Zeist.
In 1941 he took over the rent and studio of Potterie het Kruikje of Franz Wildenhain in Putten. After the Second World War he had a short stay in Leeuwarden, after which he returned to Amersfoort for good in 1949. Here he still worked sporadically at the Vlieguut in Soest.
